Trip to the Future · For teams and boards

In four hours, your team sees the same future.

An immersive team game that brings your future into such sharp detail that tomorrow you will be passing it on to the rest of the organisation.

Ask your team today where your organisation will be in two years' time. Four different answers, three shades of certainty, one shared awkward silence. Your strategy may well be sound. The picture simply has not yet landed with everyone in the same way, which makes it hard to pass on.

The Trip to the Future solves that in half a day. At your own office, with your own team, facilitated by someone who has been doing this for more than ten years.

What does a Trip look like?

Three moments from past Trips.

A Trip is an immersive team game in which you experience your future together. Here are three scenes to help you picture what happens.

The Holland Future Center shuttle ready for launch
At the start

The launch room

Your own meeting room has been transformed into a launch room. A personal travel case awaits every team member, ready for departure. In the centre stands the space shuttle you are about to board. We count down, and together you launch into the year you have chosen: your future.

The shuttle on its way through space
Halfway

The red button

Someone presses the red button, and you watch your most sceptical colleague burst out laughing. Points for the fastest group, points for the most creative. Hilarious effects. This is a part of the brain you have never explored together before. It is where the ideas emerge that later lead to the most valuable discoveries.

The shared picture of the future from the Trip
The final hour

The route maps

In the final hour you work in smaller groups on the route maps. Each route map holds three things: the picture of the future you saw together, the steps you planned backwards to get there, and the concrete action each team member will take tomorrow. Energetic, sometimes pointed, always moving. What emerges is a working tool that every team member can pick up and pass on to the rest of the organisation.

The cost of doing nothing

Your organisation is already paying for a lack of imagination.

The figures speak for themselves. McKinsey, Gallup and Axios HQ have been researching this for twenty years. All three point in the same direction.

70%

of strategic initiatives fail in execution. The plans are often well conceived; people simply never truly saw them.

McKinsey, change-execution research

29%

Trust in managers. Down from 46% in 2022. Where strategic intent and daily experience drift apart, trust is the first thing to go.

Gallup 2024

89% vs 25%

Job satisfaction when the leader communicates the organisation's vision "very clearly", compared with 25% when communication is unclear. Three and a half times higher.

What the Trip is, and what it is not

One session that makes all the others unnecessary.

Before you think oh no, another strategy day: this is deliberately something else entirely. No brown-paper walls. No quadrant models. No outsider scribbling over a document with a marker pen. We work differently.

The destination you choose shapes the Trip. A strategy. A new policy plan. A culture change. A team plan. The Trip adapts to what you need and delivers the same thing every time: a shared picture of the future that you can pass on to the rest of the organisation and, as a bonus, a team-building effect that an ordinary strategy day never gives you.

What it is NOT

  • Not a strategy session. No brown-paper walls, no sticky notes, no quadrant models, no annual-plan canvas.
  • Not team building. No escape room, no "experiencing something together". We work on your organisation; group dynamics are never a goal in themselves.
  • Not coaching or therapy. No sharing circles, no vulnerability exercises where they do not belong. Real work, with a sharp focus.

What it is

  • An immersive team game. Four hours at your own office, at a location of your choice, or at our HQ in Velden (North Limburg, the Netherlands). No diary juggling, no travel time. Somewhere the picture of the future can take root straight away.
  • A shared picture of the future you can touch. In words, images, sounds and moments. Something every team member can pass on in their own words to the rest of the organisation.
  • A route map that works. In your inbox within 24 hours. Personal travel cases for every team member to take home.
Your place or ours

A Trip can look like this.

Stay at your own office, choose a location that fits the picture, or deliberately step out of the organisation and come to our HQ. All three work. All three deliver a picture of the future that every team member takes away and passes on to the rest of the organisation.

A Trip around the table at the office Your own location

At your own office or location

Most Trips take place where you work every day. No travel time, no diary juggling. The picture of the future takes root straight away in the place where it has to live from tomorrow, which makes it easier to pass on to the rest of the organisation. Would you rather escape the familiar four walls for a while? Then choose a location of your own: a venue, a country estate, a place that fits the future you want to build. I will travel there with you.

HQ Holland Future Center

At the Holland Future Center HQ

Sometimes it helps to step outside the organisation for a while. At our headquarters in Velden (North Limburg, the Netherlands), with space and fresh air all around you. The same Trip, with the baggage of the office quite literally left behind.

What you get

Half a day of work, five tangible results.

The Trip takes four hours. What you take away is more than a memory: a shared picture of the future that every team member can pass on, a route map that works and personal travel cases that hold the picture in place. Plus a team-building effect that no stand-alone session ever delivers.

Four hours of tour guidance on site

At your own office, at a location you choose yourselves, or at our HQ in Velden (North Limburg, the Netherlands). With your team or board (4 to 12 people). Led by Corné himself, as with more than a thousand participants before you.

Travel cases for every team member

Every participant receives a personal travel case with the materials we use during the Trip. Anchors, rather than throwaway worksheets, that hold the picture in place long after the Trip is over.

Route map within 24 hours

A visual document that holds your shared picture of the future. No lengthy report, no slide summary. A map you can take in at a glance and use within the team as a conversation starter.

17 years of experience as a tour guide

Corné has been taking teams and boards on this Trip since 2008. Strategic connector and imagineer. A tour guide who helps you bring out your own future, while you stay at the helm.

45-minute intake

Before the Trip we talk through the tone, the goals and any sensitivities. Corné then puts together a tailored programme for your team. On the day itself, all you have to do is get your team into a room.

Corné van Mechelen
Your tour guide

Strategic connector and imagineer.

I have been working with leaders and organisations for twenty-nine years, and for the last seventeen of those with the Trip to the Future. More than a thousand participants, dozens of teams and boards, from leading brands to public organisations to family businesses.

What surprises me every time is that the very people flagged beforehand as "they won't join in" turn out to be the keenest of all by the halfway point. Something in this immersive team game gets even the most stubborn participant going, in a way you never see on an ordinary strategy day.

Most of the teams I guide have their house in order. The strategy is there, people are on the move, the numbers add up. What the Trip often adds is an extra layer: the same picture of the future in everyone's head, and with it a story that is far easier to pass on to the rest of the organisation. In larger organisations, that last part is often the real challenge.

The Trip grew over seventeen years: it is everything I have learned about what a team really needs, built on The Law of Connection. An adventure rather than a workshop. A guide rather than a consultant.

What teams say after their Trip

Who is this for?

Made for teams that are ready to act.

For you if

You notice that the strategy is there, but that it does not live in the same way for everyone. Instead of yet another session where the numbers get fought over, you want something that makes the direction truly land. You are a team of 4 to 12 people, with serious responsibilities and little room in your diaries for experiments with uncertain outcomes.

You believe that an organisation innovates first in its people, then in its products. And you are ready to invest four hours in it, not three days.

Not for you if

You are looking for an external consultant to work out where you should be heading. Or you are hoping a good facilitator will quickly resolve tension within the team: for that, we have a different route.

Nor if you think that a more detailed plan will create buy-in on its own. That is precisely the assumption McKinsey has been debunking for twenty years.

Limited-time offer · until 1 December

Book by 1 December and the travel report is on the house.

The travel report is the vivid, visual record of your day: images from the Trip, combined with the route maps you created together. A reference piece that holds the picture in place and that you can show to the rest of the organisation. Book by 1 December and you receive it free of charge: a value of €495.

Put it in your diaries for the summer break or Q3.

Frequently asked questions

What team members wanted to know.

How is this different from a strategy session?
A strategy session produces a document. A Trip produces a shared picture. A document fades after the first deadline; a picture stays with the whole team as an anchor. That is the difference. In practice: you leave the Trip with the strategy you already had, now seen so clearly that every team member can explain it in their own words.
What if our team already has a vision?
Two things can happen. Sometimes your existing vision is confirmed and sharpened during the Trip. Sometimes a new strategic picture emerges that is clearer than the one you had before. Both are good outcomes. The biggest gain lies in how the result comes about: because your team devises it and imagines it together, everyone becomes a co-owner. And that makes the picture far easier to pass on to the rest of the organisation. A vision that lives only around the boardroom table stays there.
Does this also work if there is tension within our team?
With minor friction: yes, and often surprisingly well. The Trip brings differences into the open and offers a shared framework for discussing them. We also regularly hear that the Trip has a real team-building effect, precisely because you experience something together rather than just talking about it. For deeper conflicts we take a different approach first, often one-to-one support for the leader, followed by work with the whole team. Mention it during the intake and we will work out together what fits best.
How much preparation does it take on my side, as the client?
One 45-minute intake call. In that call we talk through the tone, the goals and any sensitivities. Corné then puts together a tailored programme. On the day itself, all you have to do is get your team into a room.
How long does the effect last?
The picture of the future keeps working as long as it is in people's hands. That is why there is a route map and a physical travel report: both are anchors that hold the picture in place over time. In our experience, it stays actively present in team conversations for three to six months, and often much longer as a reference point for "does this still fit where we want to go?".
Which locations do teams often choose?
Most Trips take place at the team's own office, and that is by design. For teams that deliberately want to get away, we have run Trips in the Maasduinen National Park, in a field next to a head office and on Bonaire (a multi-day version). Have a specific location in mind? That can be arranged. Corné's travel time is charged transparently.
The investment

One Trip. One decision.

Compare it with the cost of a lost quarter, or of a team that spends three months failing to settle on the right direction. This is the price of seeing the same future together again.
